Security & privacy
Shrinkzy is built so that your files never leave your device. Here is exactly how it works, and how you can check it yourself.
- No uploadFiles are processed on your device
- No accountNothing to sign up for
- Originals untouchedYou get a new, lighter copy
Your files stay on your device
When you drop a file, it is opened by your browser, not sent to us. Compression, conversion and signing run in your browser, using its built-in video encoder (WebCodecs), its image engine (Canvas) and open-source PDF libraries running on your device.
The result is created on your device too. We never receive, see or store your files.
What your browser downloads
To work, your browser loads the page, its styles, its fonts and the processing modules. All of them come from shrinkzy.com itself.
There are no ads, no trackers, no analytics scripts and no cookies. We don't load anything from Google, Facebook or any other third party.
Open-source modules used: Mediabunny (video and audio, MPL-2.0), pdf-lib (PDF editing, MIT), PDF.js (PDF rendering, Apache-2.0) and fflate (ZIP, MIT).
What is saved, and where
Your settings and the daily free-video counter are saved in your browser's local storage.
If “My files” is on, a copy of your results is kept in your browser (IndexedDB), on this device only, so you can download them again. You can delete them at any time, or switch it off, from the My files page.
Clearing your browser data deletes all of it. Nothing is kept on our side.
What the host and payment provider see
The site is hosted by Netlify. Like any web host, it receives the technical information needed to deliver the pages (such as your IP address and browser type). It never receives your files.
When Pro subscriptions open, payment will be handled on the Lemon Squeezy checkout page. Shrinkzy never sees your card details.
Check it yourself
Open your browser's developer tools (F12), go to the Network tab, then compress a file: no file is uploaded.
Or load the page, turn off your internet connection, and compress a file. It still works.
What we don't claim
Shrinkzy has no ISO certification and has not had an independent security audit yet. We'd rather tell you than show a badge we haven't earned.
Because everything runs in your browser, your security also depends on your device and browser being up to date.
The “Sign PDF” tool adds an image of your signature: it is a simple electronic signature, not a certified or qualified one.
